The Uranium One scandal just keeps coming up, and that’s a really good thing, because no one has been held accountable yet!
As you may remember, it became big news leading up to the Presidential election. But the Obama administration kept saying that it wasn’t a big deal, and the fact that it was such a complicated mess to understand, worked in the Obama admistration’s favor. (And Hillary’s favor as well.)
To understand just HOW complicated it is, here’s the flow chart that Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) made, to use during an oversight hearing of the House Judiciary Committee:
Crazy complicated, right??
Hillary was able to skate by many of the accusations made about the Uranium One scandal, largely because there weren’t any DIRECT links to tie all of this together. That is, until we learned about an informant that the Obama Administration had been keeping quiet. According to a Conservative Tribune article:
“The unnamed informant is being represented by Victoria Toensing, a former Reagan Justice Department official. Toensing told The Hill that her client witnessed “a lot of bribery going on around the U.S.” involving Russian officials. However, she said, the Obama administration forced him to sign a non-disclosure agreement about what he knew that would prevent him from testifying before Congress.
When the unnamed client tried to bring forth some of the allegations in a lawsuit last year, “the Obama Justice Department threatened him with loss of freedom,” Toensing told The Hill. “They said they would bring a criminal case against him for violating” the non-disclosure agreement.”
The Trump administration’s DOJ had to cut through the red tape previously left by the Obama Administration, if they wanted to get to the truth about the Uranium One scandal. First thing on the list – get the non-disclosure agreement against the informant lifted… and late in 2017, on October 25th, they did just that.
“As of tonight, the Department of Justice has authorized the informant to disclose to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as one member of each of their staffs, any information or documents he has concerning alleged corruption or bribery involving transactions in the uranium market, including but not limited to anything related to Vadim Mikerin, Rosatom, Tenex, Uranium One, or the Clinton Foundation,” Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Flores said.
Great!! Now we can hear what the informant has to say!! Since nothing in Government moves quickly, we had to wait 2.5 months…. but the day finally came last week on 2/7/2018.
According to an article in the Hill, by John Solomon,
An FBI informant connected to the Uranium One controversy told three congressional committees in a written statement that Moscow routed millions of dollars to America with the expectation it would be used to benefit Bill Clinton‘s charitable efforts while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quarterbacked a “reset” in U.S.-Russian relations.
The informant, Douglas Campbell, said in the statement obtained by The Hill that he was told by Russian nuclear executives that Moscow had hired the American lobbying firm APCO Worldwide specifically because it was in position to influence the Obama administration, and more specifically Hillary Clinton.
Campbell added in the testimony that Russian nuclear officials “told me at various times that they expected APCO to apply a portion of the $3 million annual lobbying fee it was receiving from the Russians to provide in-kind support for the Clintons’ Global Initiative.”
“The contract called for four payments of $750,000 over twelve months. APCO was expected to give assistance free of charge to the Clinton Global Initiative as part of their effort to create a favorable environment to ensure the Obama administration made affirmative decisions on everything from Uranium One to the U.S.-Russia Civilian Nuclear Cooperation agreement.”
In addition to his written statement, Campbell on Wednesday was interviewed for several hours behind closed doors by staff from both parties on the Senate Judiciary, the House Intelligence and the House Oversight and Government Reform committees.
Reporter Sara Carter, who has been covering the Uranium One story for some time, described Campbell’s testimony as “explosive,” particularly as it related to Russian aid to Iran and their efforts at influencing the Clintons.
“Mr. Campbell testified for over four hours until he answered every question from three Congressional committees; the Senate Judiciary, House Oversight and House Intelligence committees,” stated the informant’s attorney, Victoria Toensing. “He recounted numerous times that the Russians bragged that the Clintons’ influence in the Obama administration would ensure CIFIUS approval for Uranium One. And he was right.”
There is much MUCH more to this story. If you are interested all of the details, please read Sara Carter’s article on it.
So, what’s next?? That part is hard to say. Hopefully if there is a 2nd Special Counsel appointed, to investigate the investigators, the Uranium One scandal will be included in with that.
It is CLEAR that the Obama administration knew about the bribery, and it is clear that the Clintons benefitted from it. Many people from many departments in the Obama administration helped to facilitate the transactions, and/or cover it up. Hopefully, if there is any justice in the world, people will be going to jail over this. (fingers crossed.)
